Shashanth Sriramanathan

I am a PhD candidate at the University of Bristol, working under the supervision of Andy Young. For my PhD, I primarily work on studying the X-ray emission from the innermost regions of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) by both developing and applying models. I am also an active member of TALES, a doctoral network established to use time-domain astronomy techniques to study several aspects of AGN.

Previously, I completed a master’s at the Anton Pannekoek Institute, University of Amsterdam. Here, under the supervision of Phil Uttley, I worked on using the bispectrum, a second order Fourier method, to study quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) in X-ray binaries (XRBs) for my master’s thesis. I am interested in continuing some of my work on this, please reach out if you want to collaborate!

I am broadly interested in studying accretion processes in XRBs and active galactic nuclei (AGN), with a particular focus on modeling their variability properties, such as continuum + reverberation lags, QPOs, power spectra etc.
